About Me

I am a full time illustrator, cartoonist and caricaturist. I drew my very first picture at the age of two and oddly enough I can still remember the image and the moment as though it were yesterday. It was of a man wearing a duffel coat and I can still hear my grandparents and my parents ooh-ing and aah-ing over the picture. That and the pattern on the  table in my grandparents kitchen. Since then I have not stopped drawing and as a child I drew all day every day and I drew just about everything I saw. My collection of Look and Learn magazines helped a lot as they were rich in illustrations. My dad worked as an artisan and he worked for a factory that produced all different sorts of paper so thankfully there was never a shortage of material for me to draw on.

Fortunately for me, I have always had an excellent memory and especially a visual one so as I developed more and more interest in life, I also built up a considerable visual database in my head from which I can readily draw without the need for reference. Above all these varied interests though, I have always found myself drawn over and over again to faces and body language. I simply cannot get enough of drawing faces and I am always studying people and watching their every move and expression with the result being that I have developed a knack for illustrating characters in very natural and expressive poses and moods which really helps with visual story telling.

I have local and international clients and I work on projects ranging from large scale corporate to small and personal. I have illustrated several books and comics published both in SA and abroad. While I focus primarily on the creation of comics as a communications tool for corporate clients or as an advertising vehicle for big brands, my first love is live caricaturing which I do at various events ranging from large corporate functions to private parties. The people love it and it always adds an element of great fun to any event. I enjoy the social nature of such work and I also learn a great deal about people and groups of people every time I am invited to caricature people at these events and functions.
